When I was about 7 or 8, my older brother and friends started playing hockey which trickled down to one sibling at a time, until it was my turn to skate. I had no interest! Even my little sister played at that point. Around the age of 10, my dad asked me why he didn't play hockey and my response was "I don't know". So my dad asked if he would give it a try, I said sure and today, I am the only 1 of 5 who still plays. When Iām is not playing hockey, you can find me at work. Arnold Stellema
Charitable Organization:
The worst guy, on the last place team, in the lowest division of beer league hockey... I never in my wildest dreams imagined I would be a hockey player, much less a figure skater! When my 7yr old twins discovered hockey, I took skating lessons with them and wondered why they got to have all the fun. I went to my first stick-time at the age of 55 and just a few weeks later was offered a spot on the Zombies. I wasn't sure why they were asking me, I could barely stickhandle the puck from one end of the rink to the other. I said "YES!", before they could reconsider. That was how I became associated with the finest group of human beings to ever play the game. We may not be on top of the win column, but we lead the league in laughs and camaraderie and take particular pride in being everyone's favorite team to play against! The Zombies do a host of charitable events, from hockey games to movie nights and a holiday toy drive. For a bunch of beer league goofballs, we manage to have a great time and do a whole lot of good along the way. In our first Charity Face Off hockey game the Zombies skated for Food For Thought so it is only fitting that I chose them as the charity I am skating for this evening. The twins are now 12 and playing travel hockey with the top seeded PeeWee team headed into the playoffs. I have a 19yr old son and a wonderful hardworking wife who is patient and kind enough to allow me the life of a rink rat. Snoopy's is my favorite place on Earth and I smile every time I walk through the door. When I got a text from Redwood Ice Theater Company asking if I would be interested in participating in this event, I thought "I wonder if they realize I'm not very good?" I said "YES!", before they could reconsider. I am thrilled and terrified to be taking part in the Glitter Games.
